The storyteller behind Herbie Erasmus Hippo and the wonderful world of Hippo Land.
Sandy Constable has been writing scripts for plays and musicals for many years, bringing characters, stories and ideas to life through her longstanding love of creativity and storytelling.
But one character remained with her for more than thirty years. His name was Herbie Erasmus Hippo.
For decades, Herbie lived quietly in Sandy’s imagination, along with the beginnings of a world and the adventures that might one day surround him.
Then, a conversation with a creative friend in a coffee shop in West Sussex changed everything. Inspired to finally write a book, Sandy returned to the character who had remained with her for so many years and began bringing Herbie’s story to life.
Drawing upon her experience of writing for the stage and her love of creating memorable characters, Sandy began developing the stories, friendships and adventures of Hippo Land for children and families to enjoy.
